Molecular biologist Elizabeth H. Blackburn, of the University of California, San Francisco, received the 2009 Nobel Prize in Physiology\/Medicine on December 10th, 2009 in Stockholm, Sweden which she shared with Carol W. Greider of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Jack W. Szostak of Harvard Medical School.<\/h5>\n

The scientists discovered an enzyme that plays a key role in normal cell function, as well as in cell aging and most cancers. The enzyme is called telomerase and it produces tiny units of DNA that seal off the ends of chromosomes, which contain the body\u2019s genes. These DNA units, \u00a0named telomeres, protect the integrity of the genes and maintain chromosomal stability and accurate cell division, to the point that there are now laboratories whose experts can predict one’s biological clock.<\/h5>\n

The scientists\u2019 research triggered a whole field of inquiry into the possibility that telomerase could be reactivated to treat such age-related diseases as blindness, cardiovascular disease, neurodegenerative diseases and “aging” itself, extending one’s lifespan considerably. \u00a0Conversely, by \u00a0deactivated telomerase, Dr Blackburn hypothesized that most cancers could go away, since most cancers have an abundance of \u00a0overactive telomerases.<\/h5>\n

BUT HOLISTIC ONCOLOGY HAS SHOWN THAT DR BLACKBURN IS PARTIALLY INCORRECT WHEN IT COMES TO CANCER<\/h5>\n

This discovery story \u00a0started with the tetrahymena, the one-celled organism that is called “pond scum”. Its single cell divides endlessly, appears to be \u00a0immortal in its longevity behavior. Blackburn suspected that an enzyme keeps the organism’s genetic material from eroding, as it does in other living things. She was right, and it works the same way \u00a0in humans and other mammals.<\/h5>\n

Notwithstanding the Big Pharma race to find an anti-telomerase cancer magic bullet drug, integrative and holistic medicine experts \u00a0have already found ways to regulate and boost this enzyme with success, including for cancer. \u00a0In this perspective, as the HOM documentary and book show, \u00a0there is credible evidence that \u00a0demonstrates how advanced medicine and \u00a0holistic lifestyle can boost telomerases, even for the benefit of cancer reversal.<\/h5>\n

Using some of holistic oncology’s non violent techniques, we are able to \u00a0boost telomerases, and in so doing, \u00a0instead of making the cancer more inflammatory and worse (as it should have happened, according to the Blackburn theory), the cancer genes get downregulated. Decades ago, Blackburn had already shown that chronic stress significantly lowered telomerase and shortened telomeres in a small group of women, when \u00a0those whose telemoerase were shortened, perceived the threat of \u00a0chronic stress, independently of what the stress was, the key was in the perception of bad feelings, of chronic stress, that which can \u00a0produce ravage. \u00a0Today, recent data has shown that on this score, she was right. \u00a0But \u00a0even more recent data has \u00a0shown \u00a0that by boosting \u00a0telemerase activity holistically, we were able to start the cancer reversal process by down-regulating and turning off \u00a0cancer genes. \u00a0So on this question, Dr Blackburn and \u00a0her colleagues were incorrect, activating more telomerases \u00a0does not necessarily fuel cancer growth. \u00a0Maybe with allopathic medicine. But not with holistic oncology.<\/h5>\n
